A red lacquer album with 50 hand-colored photographs of beautiful geishas, flowering gardens, wooded landscapes, and busy tradespeople. Including images from Tokyo, Osaka, Nagasaki, Kyoto, and others, as well as occupational scenes, richly decorated temples, elegant portraits of geishas, peaceful landscapes with flowing waterfalls, birds-eye views of cities, sumptuous gardens, and Mount Fuji. Hand-colored albumen prints, the images measuring approximately 7¾x10 inches (19.7x25.4 cm.), and the reverse, mounted recto/verso, half with an inventory number and caption, in English, in the negative, and the mounts each with elaborate hand-applied and colored motifs, including male and female figures against painterly landscapes, beautiful floral imagery, and birds in flight. Oblong 4to, red lacquer boards with gilt-highlighted landscape and floral imagery; refurbished leather backstrip; with Tamamura's Yokohama hand stamp (with the date 1897) on the front pastedown; all edges gilt. 1890s
